THE CALL - MUBĀH مباح
Oct 2024 - MYTO Launch Algha's Plantroom
Duration: 40min
Accompanied by Live Cello & Electronics
Durational performance, visceral exploration of resilience, identity, and the politics of the body. The performer wearing 20kilos of chains around their neck. THE CALL invited the audience to walk around the performer seven times, creating a ritualistic engagement with the space. While standing still and moving my arm in slow, deliberate motions and chest beating ritual inspired by holy month of Muharram for Shia Muslims.
THE CALL posed the question: Is the body a vessel of freedom or a site of confinement? The performance unraveled societal and religious expectations, reclaiming the female-presenting body as a medium of agency and resistance. In raw vulnerability, the piece revealed how beauty and strength emerge from struggle, inviting the audience into a shared moment of reflection and transformation.
